Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha has held a meeting with Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, during which they discussed growing security threats caused by Russia through the use of Belarusian territory.
“We discussed developments in Belarus and the growing security threats caused by Russia through the use of Belarusian territory. Moscow is increasingly dragging Belarus into its war against Ukraine, turning it into a platform for aggression not only against our state, but also against Europe as a whole,” he said on X.
The minister said it is extremely important that the Belarusian people not become “hostages of the Lukashenko regime, which bears full responsibility for facilitating [Russian] aggression.”
“We will continue cooperation with democratic Belarusian forces to ensure regional security, stability and a future in which Belarus contributes to peace, not war,” Sybiha added.
For her part, Tsikhanouskaya assured Ukraine of support and said the sides would continue “working together for a free Belarus.”
“Thank you, Andriy Sybiha. The Lukashenko regime is turning Belarus into a springboard for Russian aggression, but this does not reflect the will of the Belarusian people. We support and will continue to work together for a free Belarus that contributes to peace and security in Europe,” she said on X following the meeting.
