Several lanes of Highway 401, between Mavis and Mississauga roads, are shut down following a collision involving a dump truck late Monday afternoon.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say a truck loaded with gravel was travelling eastbound just before 5 p.m. when a mechanical failure occurred, causing the vehicle to hit the concrete guide rail and spill gravel into the westbound lanes.

Police said the driver sustained only minor injuries.

Currently, all westbound express lanes are closed in the area. Traffic can, however, get by in the collectors, the OPP said.

The eastbound HOV lane is also off limits.

The closures are expected to last several hours as crews clean up the mess.

Police are advising drivers to expect heavy traffic in the vicinity and are reminding them to use caution while travelling through the area or consider an alternate route.

More details to come. This is a developing story.
