Malta has officially joined a global initiative on space exploration, with Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg announcing that the country has signed the Artemis Accords.
Sharing the news, Borg said Malta is now part of a growing coalition of nations committed to promoting responsible, transparent and sustainable space exploration under the US-led framework.
He highlighted how, despite being a small island nation, Malta continues to position itself as a bridge-builder on the international stage, focusing on dialogue, cooperation and the strengthening of global norms.
According to Borg, the agreement reflects Malta’s belief that progress in space should go hand-in-hand with diplomatic collaboration and international trust, ensuring that scientific advancement is matched by meaningful global cooperation.
The Artemis Accords aim to establish a shared set of principles for countries participating in space exploration, particularly as missions to the Moon and beyond continue to expand.
Borg also thanked Xjenza Malta for hosting what he described as a historic moment for the country.
With this move, Malta joins an expanding list of nations looking to play a role in shaping the future of space, not through size, but through influence and collaboration.
Should Malta be investing more in space and science?
