  1. Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately it’s probably already burned out.

Little scrotes steal Jap imports to joyride. They are so easy to take its crazy. If you don’t know, they don’t have immobilisers, so they can be ‘hot-wired’ like an old car from the 80s.

  2. The fob you mention may well control a third party immobiliser? Was the car alarmed/did the fob control the alarm too?

I’ve a Vitz and have a fob for lock/unlock/boot which also controls the alarm & immobiliser. Actual key is just used for starting the engine .

Throw up a pic of the fob if you’re unsure.

If the fob is actually part of the key/not a separate thing it definitely sounds like the dealer lied.

Might be too late for this but if you’re insured through a broker be careful re the insurance questions around an immobiliser/alarm. I was never asked and they had marked the car as having both – it didn’t have either when I took out the policy. Removing them (and adding them back in later) didn’t effect policy cost etc.

    EDIT:

Also – if the key has unlock/lock AND you have a separate fob (the one you mention for lock/unlock/boot), only the separate fob would arm the immobiliser. Locking with the normal key/buttons would only lock the doors – not arm the immobiliser (or alarm).

  3. How do you check if your car actually has an immobilizer? I have a jap import Honda Fit, bought it 2 years ago. I’m sure it was advertised as having an immobilizer and I took their word for it. Last weekend someone tried to crowbar the door open and presumably got interrupted because they didn’t actually get into it.

  4. Car was found completely smashed to pieces in finglas , thanks to all who helped unfortunately the scum of the earth got to it n bypassed alarm and immobilizer
