A former federal immigration judge who served in Concord is now suing the Trump administration.
Kyra Lilien was appointed to the bench in July 2023. According to her lawsuit, new immigration judges serve a two-year probationary period before being converted to permanent positions.
She claims she and six other female judges at the Concord court were advised last year that they wouldn’t be getting permanent positions.
At the same time, Lilien claims four white male immigration judges were retained or had their positions made permanent.
Lilien believes she was fired because she is an older female Democrat with a history of advocating for immigrants.
