I am trying to quit my job in Germany.
I am working on this company for 9 years +.
What is the required notice period that I have to give?

This is the relevant paragraph from my contract.

  1. As it says 6 weeks from the end of the month you quit. So if you quit on any day in July you’ll be out of the job by mid-September.

  2. Please read the complete paragraph before giving wrong advice!

The paragraph says 6 weeks to the END OF THE MONTH (6 Wochen zum Monatsende).

This means if you hand in your termination letter today 16.06.2022 + 6 weeks = 28.07.2022 to the end of the month = 31.07.2022 is your last day.

If you hand it in on Monday 20.06.2022 + 6 weeks = 1.08.2022 to the end of month = 31.08.2022 kid your last day.

Don’t forget that you need to terminate an employment contract in writing on paper (no email) and that the day your employer receives the letter counts – not the day you sent it. Either hand it in in person and let them sign a copy to confirm that they received it or send it as Einwurfeinschreiben. Don’t send it „with Rückschein“ or request the signature of a specific person. If this person isn’t available or they send the confirmation back much later, this will mess up your notice period.

  3. 3 months to the end of the month – that’s your required notice period after 9 years (since that is the stated legal notice period in your contract). So if you quit your job to the end of June your last day would be september 30th.

I would say it is six weeks. Legally you could quit within 4 weeks but since the contract says six this should count. If your workplace is going to fire you they have to do this with 4 months notice If you are there for 9 years. Often there are agreements that you must give the company the same notice period like they have to give you but i dont see that here.
