In recent years, Bulgarian literature has significantly expanded its international presence, Deputy Culture Minister Viktor Stoyanov said on Thursday at the opening of the Bulgarian stand at the Thessaloniki International Book Fair in Greece, where Bulgaria is the guest of honour.
The central theme of the Bulgarian participation in the fair is “Literature Beyond Borders”. According to Stoyanov, it “fully reflects the essence of literature: a space where cultures meet, ideas move freely, and mutual understanding becomes stronger. In this sense, Bulgaria’s presence here is not only a celebration of our literary achievements, but also an expression of commitment to dialogue, cooperation and cultural exchange.”
“More and more Bulgarian authors are being translated and published around the world, and their works are receiving prestigious recognition. This success would not be possible without the invaluable role of translators – true cultural ambassadors who build bridges between languages and peoples,” he noted.
Stoyanov said that as part of its participation, Bulgaria will present some of its brightest voices of contemporary literature, whose works already reach Greek readers and audiences beyond the borders of both countries. “Their presence today is proof of the vitality, diversity and creative strength of our literary scene,” he said.
“Our participation in Thessaloniki is also part of the broader and steadily developing cultural cooperation between Bulgaria and Greece. We firmly believe that such partnerships create lasting ties and open new horizons for future cooperation,” the deputy minister said.
Stoyanov thanked Greece’s Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni for her support and her desire for both countries to take cultural relations to a new level, as well as to the President of the Hellenic Foundation for Books and Culture, Nikolaos Bakounakis.
