Eurovision is here! Delegations are now in Vienna and every semi-finalist has rehearsed once since Saturday. Today was the first day of second rehearsals, with most of the first semi-finalists rehearsing during shorter slots of 20m. The Eurovision socials accounts have been publishing the traditional second rehearsal videos, which are short extracts of the TV feed from each performance. The Eurovision website has also released new pictures for each rehearsal.
🇵🇹 Portugal – Bandidos do Cante – Second rehearsal
Check out our notes on the first rehearsal.
Within this piece of the rehearsal clip we start with focus on the violinist dressed in white. From there, the camera pans along the catwalk to showcase the full extent of the rose LED feature. We get a wide shot of the band before the camera slowly drifts and rises above to allow viewers to see the cascading roses that travel onto the floor LED. A simple shot that is as beautiful as the harmonies.
🇬🇪 Georgia – Bzikebi – Second rehearsal
Check out our notes on the first rehearsal.
Here Bzikebi take us from the chorus into the bridge, which features the traditional Georgian vocalisation as the trio take to the floor in their dance-break section. The group make full use of the catwalk, great for those with standing tickets. As the audience is treated to a full on laser show with pink accents.
🇫🇮 Finland – Linda Lampenius x Pete Parkkonen – Second rehearsal
Check out our notes on the first rehearsal.
As the clip begins we see Pete in close-up frame before the camera pans to a wider shot of Linda in the distance. The strings of the violin adding to the drama of the scene. Which has now been confirmed by Linda and Yle to be live instrumentation. We then have the clip punctuated by the electronic beats as the camera pans overhead in a sequence that’s been tightened up since UMK. Pete sits in by his wooden frame prop as Linda remains in the distance to show the two in shot together with the full expanse of the runway.
🇲🇪 Montenegro – Tamara Živković – Second rehearsal
Check out our notes on the first rehearsal.
Welcome to the convent of Montenegro! Tamara is circled by her four dancers wearing neck collars reminiscent of nuns in this Gothic-Electronica anthem. It is a bold look against the heavy use of red LED lighting. Tamara makes good use of the overhead camera to enhance the choreography of herself and the dancers around her.
🇪🇪 Estonia – Vanilla Ninja – Second rehearsal
Check out our notes on the first rehearsal.
All of the rock chick attitude is on full show in this clip from Estonia’s second rehearsal. Warmer tones of oranges drape the LED wall compared to the national final. The camera starts with a close-up of the drummer before switching between cuts of Vanilla Ninja. We get a lot of bright lighting as Lenna takes to the catwalk to give a high-kick as the clip ends.
