The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange invites the community to celebrate Czech culture, heritage, music, food, and remembrance during the 25th annual Slavnost “May Fest” on Sunday, May 17.

Festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. with a recognition ceremony honoring the Czech immigrants to Texas. The ceremony will also include the unveiling of the recently placed monument marking Czech President Petr Pavel and First Lady Eva Pavlová’s historic 2024 visit to TCHCC.

A chicken fried chicken dinner will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m., along with Czech-style desserts and refreshments. Live music by The Vintage Drafts Band will follow the ceremony and continue until 4 p.m. on the deck of the main center. Guests will also enjoy a special performance by Pardubická Muzika from the Czech Republic from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Additional activities include a traditional May Pole Dance at 2:30 p.m., demonstrations in the Czech Village, booths hosted by Czech-founded organizations, and family activities presented by the Czech Heritage Society of Texas. Guests are also encouraged to shop the Kopecky Gift Shop, featuring unique gifts, year-round Christmas ornaments, and new Czech garnet shipments from the Czech Republic.

During Slavnost, visitors may tour the TCHCC Czech Village, which features historic structures from the late 1800s and early 1900s. The themed exhibit, “250 Years Czech American Legacy,” will also be on display in the museum, highlighting the rich history and lasting contributions of Czech Americans in Texas and beyond. Make it a weekend in La Grange by also visiting the Bluff Schuetzenfest at Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites on Saturday, May 16. Slavnost will be held rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, activities will continue inside Pavilion Hall on the TCHCC grounds
