Yeah, much of the “celebration” has been somewhat over the top – but I think that is kind of the whole idea. No intention of wearing a Union Jack suit personally, but each to their own, it all seems fairly harmless in the bigger scheme of things.
They can do what they want, just don’t ruin it for those who want to enjoy it.
Personally I’ve seen little of it around here outside of the TV either way.
It does seem the media are showing the whole country celebrating which is not true. It’s propaganda. You either support it or shut up much like Putins propaganda machine in Russia. We’re not so different!
I think all this contrarion wannabe punk stuff is just as cringe inducing.
If you want to celebrate then do it, if not then don’t but nobody gives a fuck about how much you are disgusted by a once in a lifetime show of patriatism.
It’s just shitting on other people’s parade for attention.
I’m neutral on the monarchy but you all come across as edgy miserable cunts
Its just a chance to celebrate, like a festival. You don’t actually need to believe, its like Christmas.
I also personally think getting rid of the royal family in the modern era would be a constitutional Disaster. Can you imagine someone like Boris writing a new constitution? Having to have a President?
Theres also an element of “How dare you have fun doing something I disagree with!!”
Guilty pleasure of mine coming to this subreddit from time to time to see how miserable you all are
Republican groupsicle tries to make some noise, end up looking like miserable cunts.
I think the Monarchy is like Christianity to most people, for most of the time no one cares about either until you speak against it then everyone gets really defensive
Did ‘stuff the jubilee’ parties in 1977, I simply don’t care enough to do that this time round. Aside from the media frenzy, its been remarkably low key out here in the sticks, enough to put a tiny spark of hope in my republican heart.
Good for them. Unfortunately it’s a necessary statement to make outright as the media is pushing that everyone is united celebrating the royal family, when the reality is most people are just enjoying an extended weekend. It’s absolutely bizarre seeing such transparent propaganda on terrestrial TV channels.
I read Hitchens’ essay on the monarchy years ago and the part that struck me most is what the fawning over monarchy would look like to other countries, or rather how it appears to us when other countries behave similarly, and how absolutely ridiculous it all is if you’re not psychologically invested in it. Now I can’t see it any other way. It just seems like the biggest load of bollocks I can imagine and I’ll never understand it. Before you even get to the financial or political elements, as a cultural phenomenon its just nonsensical drivel in this day and age. One family is selected by God, divinely ordained; they’re apparently inherently superior to everyone else in the world and thus have the right to rule over everyone else? They’re just meat sacks like the rest of us and how anyone gets emotionally invested in it I find completely unfathomable.
Not gonna lie, these are equally cringe in their own way.
I wish we had more regular community gatherings and built better spirit, but I often find the reasons we then show this community spirit utterly cringeworthy. Banging pans and clapping outside houses to show appreciation for the NHS whilst the actual staff are leaving the country due to Brexit or having their wages held down, whilst the NHS itself is in a dire state and in need of major reform. Now jubilee parties to celebrate…… something or other to do with a privileged woman born in to wealth still being alive, and meanwhile many struggle to keep their head above water as prices wildly escalate.
I wouldn’t feel energised enough to organise a anti-monarchy celebration but I find each of them quite embarrassing. There are people actually in need in the community, but people are only really invested in doing things for show, they couldn’t care much less about the actual community.
That is so childish. They must be hard work to be around.
An anti Jubilee party is still a Jubilee party, so if I were you I’d just get a life
That geezer in the photo looks so angry haha. Get over it mate.
Went to Palace as lucky enough to have seats & was utterly awesome.
I enjoyed the fly by, had 4 days off work, went on a date with a woman way too young for me but we both had fun, got sloshed and now sitting on my arse watching Star Trek
Life is good I think
Thanks Liz
Though in seriousness, I am deeply neutral about a constitutional monarchy, one hand it is deeply weird and on the other the world is full of twat president’s.
But it is people’s democratic rights to say what a load of old bollocks as well over this weekend
I am a naturalised British citizen…Coming from a Republic, I don’t really like the idea of the Monarchy…however, I had a lot of fun these days, and I am glad other people did the same. Fuck these cunts.
“Look at me, I’m special! Notice me!”
i see that “i dont like the monarchy so im having a anti-jubilee party” as still having a jubilee party
I’m not gonna lie – you’re still centring them in your thoughts. I don’t think about the royal family daily, but these people seem to bring them up in every conversation.
That looks miserable honestly. I doubt there are many smiles at those parties. I am neither for or against the royal family, but the celebrations at least bringing smiles and some good times. Too much negativity around to not at least feel good for a couple days.
Can’t they just ignore it like most of us who don’t give a shit have?
Oh fuck off, don’t watch it then!
I’m not a football fan but I dont get uptight about it, I just turn to another channel there’s plenty of them.
When you build your entire personality around negativity and hatred you’re basically just a cunt. Pardon my language.

In other news – if you want to help shoot down BoJo’s latest wheeze re Imperial vs. Metric – if you go [here](https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/choice-on-units-of-measurement-markings-and-sales) then you’ll be able to download the response form to the Government’s consultation process, examples of what to say if you are against this proposal are to be found [here](https://twitter.com/EvanD/status/1533075249868185602)
