Alan is one of those people who equates criticism of Israel with antisemitism.

I do always think it’s funny that Alan Shatter joined a party that allowed Oliver J Flanagan in it (Charlie Flanagan’s dad), given that Oliver J’s maiden speech in the Dáil, given when he was 23 in 1943, included an unambiguous statement of his views on Jewish people:

I’m not sure how prevalent antisemitism in Ireland is but I’m pro Palestine and used to attend meetings and rallies.
The vast, vast majority of the people were pro Palestine as they were revolted by the actions of Israel but I met a few who were full on antisemitic.

He was very vocal two years later as Minister of Defence when he ignored the UN’s accusations of war crimes by Israel and went and spent €14M on Israeli spy planes and unmanned surveillance equipment, telling anyone who raised a question to stop being so anti Semitic…

While I don’t think a Jew would be discriminated because of their religion, there definitely is a problem with the rhetoric of some people making out that Israelis wanting their own country is the same as Nazism and thinking that Israel should just stop existing.
