Prime Minister Robert Abela has proposed the creation of a dedicated e-sports centre in Malta as part of the Labour Party’s wider economic and digital vision.

The planned facility would include gaming infrastructure designed to host tournaments and other competitive gaming events, with Abela describing the project as a “natural evolution” for the country.

The proposal was announced during a press conference focused on the economy, where the Prime Minister outlined several initiatives linked to innovation, technology and digital growth.

E-sports has grown rapidly worldwide over the past decade, attracting major international audiences, sponsorships and professional competitions, with Malta already hosting a strong gaming and tech sector.

The proposed centre could potentially position Malta as a regional hub for competitive gaming events while also creating opportunities for younger generations interested in the industry.
