A fresh shipment of Swedish equipment promises faster, safer runway repairs at frontline Ukrainian airfields. Details of wider Gripen talks emerged after defense minister meetings.

Sweden has delivered to Ukraine specialized equipment to service military airfields.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense confirmed this information, noting that the new equipment will enable higher-quality runway maintenance at forward airfields.

Benefits of using the new equipment

In particular, the use of the equipment allows for fast and high-quality maintenance of runways, keeping airfields ready around the clock in any weather, ensuring pilots’ safety during takeoffs and landings, and also guaranteeing the continuous combat readiness of aviation.

The ministry also noted that Ukraine and Sweden are considering signing contracts for the supply of Gripen aircraft. These discussions took place during a meeting between Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Sweden’s Minister of Defense Pål Jonson.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported that Sweden is preparing a large-scale aid package that will include air defense systems and Saab radars, as well as contributions to Ukraine’s defense-industrial complex – additional electronic warfare systems and drones, including deep-strike capabilities.

Going forward, continued close cooperation in the defense sector and the strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities in line with joint commitments is expected.
