Greek authorities are investigating the discovery of a suspected Ukrainian Magura V5 naval drone near the island of Lefkada after initial examinations reportedly revealed that the vessel had been configured for a kamikaze-style attack.
According to the Greek newspaper Kathimerini, specialists who inspected the unmanned surface vessel concluded that it had been loaded with active explosives and was likely intended to ram a target. Investigators reportedly believe the potential target may have been a commercial vessel or tanker operating in regional waters.

The incident triggered a response involving Greek security authorities and military specialists. Due to the presence of explosives, the situation was initially treated as a serious maritime security threat. An army explosive ordnance disposal specialist later removed the detonators, while coast guard personnel disconnected the drone’s batteries to stop the engines and fully neutralize the vessel.
One of the more unusual details mentioned in the report was the discovery of handwritten notes inside the drone. Investigators reportedly found the presence of written instructions surprising, given that kamikaze-style unmanned vessels are generally designed to be destroyed during impact with their targets.
