  1. £3bn spent on Ajax military vehicles same cost as 12 hospitals… Or just half a bung at some dodgy PPE contract your mate does.

  2. Seeing how if they go more than 20mph they are likely to make the crew deaf, among many other issues, surely its got to be up there with the worst acquisitions for defence?

  3. You can say the same about literally every other similarly priced project. It would have been better to compare it to other defence projects.

The headline is clickbait, but the real nuance is in the article.

  4. Why the comparison? If they chose to spend it on hospitals then you’d just have 12 empty hospitals as the NHS has a massive recruiting problem.

  5. Eh, the warriors etc all still need to be replaced – thanks to Putin’s antics, any sort of demilitarisation is completely off the cards.

This project is cursed though, the turret design seems great but the chassis itself seems to be absolutely crap. The CV90 or Lynx would have been a much better idea….

  6. I find it hard to believe £3bn would build 12 hospitals. Even then, when they are built, the costs to maintain and function far exceed £3bn.

Hypothetically, even if it did cost £3bn, we’re short on medical staff, the conservatives are bleeding the NHS dry, and so much money is wasted not going to proper care that to be honest, it is probably better spent elsewhere.

  7. So the cost of the (cancelled) third Q.E. Class Carrier, if you also factor in development and over-spend.
