Beirut, May 9 (SANA) Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said Saturday that talks with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and senior officials in Damascus resulted in “significant progress” on a range of shared issues, including the economy, energy, transportation and security cooperation.
In a post published on platform X following his visit to Syria, Salam said, “I was pleased, along with the accompanying government delegation, to visit Syria and meet with President Ahmad al-Sharaa.”
He added that discussions were held “in a positive spirit” and reflected a commitment to state-to-state cooperation “without reservation or hesitation,” while expressing confidence that “tangible results will emerge soon.”
The Lebanese prime minister said the talks also addressed broader regional challenges facing both countries amid rapidly evolving developments, adding that political consultations between Beirut and Damascus would continue in the coming period.
He said Lebanon and Syria plan to establish joint committees and intensify ministerial-level communication to expand cooperation beyond the sectors already discussed.
The Lebanese delegation arrived in Damascus early Saturday, where they held talks with the Syrian President and government ministers.
The visit comes as Syria and Lebanon seek to strengthen coordination on cross-border trade, transit routes and regional economic cooperation amid ongoing political and economic pressures facing both countries.
