PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) — Former Massachusetts governor and Utah Senator Mitt Romney made his first foray back into national politics since retiring by fundraising for Maine Senator Susan Collins.
Politico reports Romney, who left office in 2025, held the fundraiser in Salt Lake City with his son, along with the president of Zions Bank.
Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee who later went on to clash with President Trump, apparently said during the fundraiser he knows how hard it is to be a Republican in New England and praised Collins as a “dying breed.”
Politico reported that during the fundraiser, Collins was optimistic about the upcoming general election against progressive Democrat Graham Platner but noted she will need help to win.
An attendee told the outlet Collins said she will outwork Platner but will need the funds to beat him.
