Matouq was targeted by an Israeli reconnaissance aircraft while riding an electric bicycle in Jabalia in northern Gaza on Friday.

The killing came as civilian casualties continue despite a ceasefire framework that was meant to halt fighting in the enclave.

According to WAFA News Agency, the death toll from Israel’s military campaign in Gaza Strip has risen to 72,736 since October 2023, while 172,535 people have been injured.

Medical sources cited by WAFA said hospitals in Gaza received five bodies and 15 wounded people over the past 24 hours alone. The agency also reported that 850 Palestinians have been killed and 2,433 wounded since the ceasefire began on 11 October 2025.

WAFA added that 770 bodies had been recovered from beneath rubble during that period, while others remain trapped under collapsed buildings or in inaccessible areas because rescue and ambulance crews are unable to reach them.

Tel Aviv has also opposed the entry of a transitional administrative committee already formed to manage Gaza’s civilian affairs and start the process of reconstruction under the October 2025 ceasefire agreement between Tel Aviv and Hamas.

In tandem, the Israeli occupation forces have impeded the entry of humanitarian aid to the strip in violation of the terms of the truce.
