Ireland 2022

  1. Obligatory reply that rocketing accommodation costs are an issue right across the developed world. FF/FG are more powerful than we thought.

  2. €2 litre diesel was last week, its way beyond that now. Saw some shockers today. Wait for the FFG supporters mentioning the Sinn Fein money tree, i can’t wait.

  3. Choose free education. Choose social security. Choose low crime rates. Choose vibrant culture and history. Choose accessible healthcare.

People who like living in Ireland, post your positives in this thread 👇

  4. 👉 Wondering how you’re gonna pay for you petrol to go to work cause there’s no public transport

  5. See it mentioned a fair bit when putting blame around, politicians do have a lot to answer for but what about that untouchable crowd, those civil servants at the top of the relevant departments. It is them who are recommending policies to government, them that are implementing those policies and them that don’t seem to have any responsibility if they work or not.

  6. ah sure what do you mean lad, its all sinn feins fault. what do you mean they’ve never been in government? that doesn’t matter, its just their fault!!!

    /s

  7. 31, have a masters, a house, a 212 car, a long term partner and an adorable dog. I can afford all my bills, I save money monthly, have health insurance and a pension.

Grew up dirt poor, never had any family to help me out, but worked hard, and now have a great life to show for it.

Am I the exception to op’s post? Or are things not as bad as it’s made out to be?

  8. Life is harsh and then you die. The average Irish person lives to about age 80 these days. Until a century ago, the average life expectancy in Europe was only 38 years. In your great-grand parents days some 40% of children died before their fifth birthday. So modern Ireland offers relatively long life, even if the petrol costs more.

Life is a struggle and sometimes it is horrible. But it has fun moments and is reasonably tolerable most of the time. Don’t look at everything in extremes.

  9. Choose COVID and a war in Europe. Not everything is the governments fault. It’s not their job to hold your hand through life. If you can’t make it here, maybe go and try somewhere else.

  10. Our politicians are very reliant on our morbid optimism and general capacity to take it up the rear. This country’s strength is being used against them.

  11. BUt Sinn feiN Might Ruin OUr futures, Imma vote these cunts out like last time when they lost but stay in power, Is this democracy? If it is i Hate it.

Everyday people like me and you, Its time to fight back.

It has to start somewhere. It has to start sometime.

We looked shocked at our tesco receipt while ultra rich dont pay their share.

    are you okay with this?

  12. Government can be criticised for a lot of the issues listed here but inflation? Not really. If they didn’t put money into the economy during covid, there would be mass unemployment

As for this “Choose over priced food, energy, building materials, and €2 a lite diesel.” I dunno what to say. The only thing a government can do is lower VAT here and that might not help if inflation and supply issues (which the Irish government cannot do anything about ) continue.

Housing situation is a disaster and no political party hands are clean of it, but decisions by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have not worked.

Solve housing and you solve a lot. Sadly no party at present will in the near term

  13. We have one of the highest living standards in the world, I’m honestly tired of all the moaning on this sub making it out like we’re living in some hellhole. Yes we have problems that need to be urgently addressed but Ireland is not unlivable and 95% of the world’s population would probably laugh at us for moaning so much given our standard of living.

  14. Unless SF are going to totally transform the economic and political system than I can’t see them making a hell of a lot of a difference. If they maintain the current capitalist consensus (which I think they will unfortunately) than they won’t be able to resolve these problems

  15. As much as I dislike FF and FG, those thinking that SF can magically fix the country in one 5 year stint are way off the mark. But i look forward to something different. I just hope folks set their expectations correctly

  16. The fuel prices could be fixed if Irish people would use a scooter that’s gets 120mpg+ instead of a car like every other country as well as Ireland has one of the least amount of worked hours per week in Europe

  17. Senior civil servants and politicians have wrecked this country. Mainly because they have the vision of about 1 meter in front of them. Imagine all the Irish construction workers who’ve left our shores and built sky scrapers, motor ways with 7 lanes, underground’s, etc. They had to leave to do all those things, you know why? Because the senior civil servants of this country have the ambition, vision and life experience of rocking horses. Citywest will be in Naas soon with one road servicing it, and then you hear something something about the skyline blah blah. Screw this place
