Opatija has once again become a filming location for an international television production, with the third season of the popular British TV series The Forsytes currently being shot in the city.

The series is an adaptation of The Forsyte Saga, the famous work by Nobel Prize-winning author John Galsworthy. The story follows three generations of the wealthy Forsyte family in London.

For the latest season, Opatija is standing in for the French Riviera of the late 19th century.

Filming is taking place during May and June across the Kvarner region, Istria and Zagreb. The production is being carried out in cooperation between Zagreb-based MP Film Production and British production company Mammoth Screen

The project is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the local community, Grad Opatija said. According to organisers, the production will generate more than 4,200 overnight stays and involve around 150 guests during filming.

The production is also employing around 300 local extras and support film workers, further highlighting the growing importance of Croatia as a destination for international film and television productions.

The latest project adds to Opatija’s reputation as an attractive filming location thanks to its historic architecture, coastal setting and long-standing tourism tradition.
