Ik herinner mij die zaak van in het begin. Naar mijn mening had ze nooit veroordeeld mogen worden. Heeft ze het gedaan? Misschien. Maar ze is veroordeeld enkel en alleen op basis van een motief, en het feit dat er geen andere verdachte was.
En dan vind ik dat ‘ze zal het wel gedaan hebben’ niet genoeg is.
I remember Vermassen (the lawyer for the prosecution) addressing the jury in the closing statements saying something to the effect of “Evidence? Ladies and gentlemen, the days of the officer shifting through piles of garbage with his looking glass in search of evidence are long gone. We don’t live in the year 1850 anymore.’, and all I could think was: if you think that’s archaic, what about finding somewhat guilty without any evidence? Like a medieval witch-hunt?
This trail was such bs to be honest, and an excellent argument on why we should stop using juries of unprofessionals, no way a panel of actual jurists would’ve found her guilty. This entire trial was a mockery of justice.

Oh man I was 7 years old when this trial happend and still remember how confused I was when my parents explained this woman was sentenced without any evidence.
– Zij heeft de sex onveilig gemaakt dokter. kan ik dat aangeven als mijn test positief is. -daartegen kunnen wij niets doen.
