State Representative Ray Reed (D–District 83) issued the following statement on May 8 recognizing the one-year anniversary of Pope Leo XIV’s ascension to the Chair of St. Peter:
“Today, we join Catholics in District 83 and around the world in celebrating one year since Pope Leo XIV began his papacy, a moment that carried deep spiritual meaning for millions of people of faith.
Over the past year, his leadership has reflected values that resonate far beyond the walls of the Church: compassion for the vulnerable, a commitment to justice, and a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for one another.
In communities across St. Louis County, including right here in District 83, Catholic families and institutions play a vital role in serving others, strengthening neighborhoods, and living out these principles each day.
On this anniversary, we honor that service and stand in recognition of the enduring impact of faith in bringing people together across differences.
May this milestone be a moment of reflection, renewal, and continued commitment to the common good.”
