Moldovan state-owned company Fabrica de Sticla is looking for private investors.
Fabrica de Sticla’s (Chişinău glass factory)’s estimated market value is over 756 million lei ($170 million), and it has a current production capacity of 200 tons of molten glass per day.
As well as privatisation, there are also plans for a post-privatisation investment programme, estimated at around €20.5 million.
This should be carried out by the successful bidder within three years, and aims to modernise production capacities and increase operational efficiency.
The plan has two phases, with the first looking to add a new high-intensity furnace, with 20% lower energy use and 23% smaller melting area, to the factory, which would cost €14 million.
The furnace would also increase production capacity by at least 5%, lowering both operating and capital costs.
Phase two, costing €6.5 million, would consist of investing in three new glass-forming machines (8 sections, 16 cavities/min., range 150 ml – 5 litres), two automated inspection systems, annealing lehrs, quality-control instruments, and a packaging line.
The equipment would include complete forming and blowing systems, automated transfer lines, thermally controlled moulds, and a modern PLC-based automation system with real-time monitoring and remote diagnostics.
Standard outfitting includes mould sets, rapid change systems, controlled cooling circuits, and the tools and equipment required for maintenance.
Both additions would be expected to cut energy costs, increase production capacity, improve product quality, and remove bottlenecks in the packaging process.
Interested bidders were required to submit participation documents to the Public Property Agency in Romanian (or in the bidder’s country-of-origin language, accompanied by a certified Romanian translation), in a sealed envelope, with proof of payment of the participation deposit.
The successful investor would also be required to provide training for the glasswork’s staff. This would include organising training programmes at the equipment manufacturer to ensure efficient and safe operation of the process installations.
Overall, the investment would cover installation, commissioning, staff training, start-up support, and technical documentation in Romanian and English.
