The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a yellow weather alert for Tuesday, May 12, warning of potentially hazardous conditions due to heavy rainfall across large parts of Central and Eastern Bulgaria. Western regions remain outside the alert zone, as they are not expected to experience the same level of weather instability.

The forecast, cited by BTA, indicates that the country will be affected by rapidly changing conditions. During the night, brief showers are expected to move from west to east. By morning, precipitation will temporarily ease and cloud cover will begin to break up, offering a short-lived pause in activity.

However, the situation is expected to deteriorate again after midday. Atmospheric instability will increase, leading to the development of strong cumulus clouds across many areas under the yellow code warning. These conditions are expected to bring short but intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and localized hail.

Despite the unstable weather, temperatures will remain relatively warm for the season. Daily highs will range between 22 and 27 degrees Celsius, with Sofia expected to reach around 23 degrees. Winds will generally be light to moderate from the west-southwest, although they may shift direction and strengthen sharply during storm activity.

Coastal and mountain conditions are also expected to be affected. Along the Black Sea coast, cloud cover will be significant, with rain developing in the afternoon in several areas. Temperatures in the northern coastal regions will stay near 19–20 degrees, while southern areas may reach 24–25 degrees. Sea water temperatures are forecast to remain between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius.

In the mountainous regions, conditions will be unfavorable for outdoor activities. Short-lived but intense rainfall and thunderstorms are expected, accompanied by strong westerly winds at higher elevations. Temperatures are forecast at around 15 degrees at 1200 meters altitude and approximately 9 degrees at 2000 meters.
