Hei,

I recently had a brief conversation with two users here about old childhood movies (and books). It made me think to compile a list of classics and “must see” movies for children in Germany. I am not talking necessarily about German movies and shows, but those that are and have been watched by German kids and for which you still have fond memories.

My incomplete list would be

[die Sendung mit der Maus](https://www.wdrmaus.de/aktuelle-sendung/)

[Löwenzahn](https://www.zdf.de/kinder/loewenzahn)

[Logo](https://www.zdf.de/kinder/logo)

[Ronja Räubertochter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronia,_the_Robber%27s_Daughter_(film))

[Frau Holle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xQZotsyVB4)

[3 Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du78R0VuRow)

[6 Bären mit Zwiebel](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sechs_B%C3%A4ren_und_ein_Clown)

What favourites would you add to the list?

  1. Classics from my youth (mid 80’s to early 90’s):

    1. [Der Li-La-Launebär](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li-La-Launeb%C3%A4r)
    1. Das Sandmännchen ([East German](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unser_Sandm%C3%A4nnchen) and [West German](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandm%C3%A4nnchen) versions)
    1. [Disney Club](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Club) (later rebranded to [Tigerentenclub](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tigerenten_Club))
    1. [Bim Bam Bino](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bim_Bam_Bino)
    1. [Augsburger Puppenkiste](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augsburger_Puppenkiste)

[Hallo Spencer!](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallo_Spencer) and [Sesamstraße](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sesamstra%C3%9Fe) (Sesame Street) were (are?) also quite popular, but I personally didn’t like either.

All the rest I watched were cartoons like The Smurfs (die Schlümpfe), Familie Feuerstein (The Flintstones) etc., all dubbed in German.

  2. Great thread! My personal favorites, that I still love today are:

    1. Alfred J. Kwak

    2. Es war einmal… (das Leben)

    3. Pipi Langstrumpf

    4. Die Mumins

    5. Wikie

    6. Pauli der Maulwurf

    7. Neues vom Süderhof

    8. Augsburger Puppenkiste

  3. I would add
    – Als die Tiere den Wald verließen
    – Nils Holgersson
    – Thomas the Tank Engine (English)
    – Various classical Disney movies (English)

  4. A whole other form of media German children are fond of are Hörspiele (audio dramas). There are many series of varying quality, like

    Die drei ???

    TKKG

    Benjamin Blümchen

    Bibi Blocksberg

    Fünf Freunde

    and maaaany others.

  5. One of my absolute favourites to this day is “Pumuckl”. It’s a series about a little gnome living with an old carpenter in Munich in the 1980s. It is a very authentic depiction of the cities society at that time.
They have a lot of (more or less harmless) adventures together in which Pumuckl, who is new to the life with humans, has to learn manners and moral like a child.
It is a truly heartwarming story and still funny after that many years.
