Police say a man playing a game of truck, truck, goose at Lake Jacksonville was able to fly away before he was caught.
Jacksonville police responded about 10:29 p.m. Sunday to Point 1 Road off New Lake Road after a caller reported seeing someone using their truck to chase geese, according to a police report.
Giant Canada geese are a common year-round sight at many Morgan County lakes, according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The large birds — weighing anywhere from 6 to 24 pounds — typically are docile but can become quite aggressive during nesting season, which usually is March through May.
They also are protected under federal law.
The driver of the black truck was gone when officers arrived, and the witness did not get a license plate number, according to Jacksonville Police Lt. Sean Walker.
Police documented the incident, but there was no indication any birds were caught or injured, according to a police report.
“They’re geese; he’s not going to catch them,” Walker said.
