WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump on Monday sharply criticized Iran’s latest ceasefire proposal, saying it is “on life support.”
“It’s unbelievably weak — one of the weakest I’ve seen. It’s on life support,” Trump told reporters during an announcement on maternal health.
“I would say the ceasefire is on massive life support where the doctor walks in and says, ‘Sir, your loved one has approximately a one percent chance of living,’” he added.
When asked if he has a plan, Trump responded: “I have a very simple plan. Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.”
Tehran responded to the latest U.S. proposal on Sunday via Pakistani mediators, focusing on a permanent end to the war rather than a short-term truce. However, it refused the core U.S. demand to fully dismantle its enrichment capability and offered no sweeping guarantees that it would abandon a path to nuclear weapons.
Trump quickly rejected the proposal, accusing Tehran on social media of “playing games” with the United States for 47 years and calling the deal “TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!”
The war with Iran has now stretched beyond two months with no end in sight.
With talks faltering, tensions have also continued to flare in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping lane, where Iranian forces and U.S.-aligned naval patrols have stepped up their presence in recent weeks.
The U.S. has continued enforcing a blockade targeting Iranian shipping and ports, while Tehran has warned it could further restrict movement through the strait.
The back-and-forth has raised concerns about potential disruptions to global energy supplies, adding another layer of urgency — and volatility — to already fragile ceasefire talks.
