Trump nominates Pa. State Senator Doug Mastriano as US ambassador to Slovakia
President Donald Trump has nominated Pennsylvania State Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-PA) to serve as the U.S. ambassador to the Slovak Republic, the White House announced Monday. Mastriano, who has served Franklin and Adams counties in the state Senate since 2019, reacted to the nomination via X, formerly known as Twitter, saying: “I am deeply honored and humbled by President Trump’s nomination to serve as United States Ambassador to the Slovak Republic. Upon Senate confirmation, I look forward to representing our nation abroad, strengthening the friendship between our two countries, and advancing the interests of the American people.”He continued, saying, “In the meantime, I remain fully committed to serving the people of Pennsylvania’s 33rd Senatorial District and will continue fulfilling my responsibilities while the Senate considers my nomination.” The current state senator and former U.S. Army colonel ran for state governor in 2022 against Democrat Josh Shapiro, who recieved 56.5% of the vote and was sworn in as governor in 2023.
