“The Berlin Wall. A World Divided” is Union Station’s newest exhibit, and staff are hard at work preparing for opening day. The exhibit space is still being built and is currently an active construction zone, but Monday morning was extra special because truckloads of artifacts were delivered. Around 200 original objects will be on display from the Cold War, Nuclear Arms Race and Space Race. But of course, the focal point of the exhibit will be the six large sections of the Berlin Wall.”Shipping containers just started arriving two days ago, a few more today, coming directly from its European tour which started in Madrid, and went to Paris, went to Barcelona, and we are the first North American stop for this world tour. So we’re very excited,” said Michael Tritt, chief marketing officer for Union Station. The Berlin Wall was built by the communist government of East Germany and divided Berlin for nearly three decades. Sections of it will be delivered to Union Station later this week. “This divided families. It divided a country. It divided the capital of Germany at that point. And it divided different philosophies in how the world should work between freedom and capitalism versus communism and all of the oppression that went along with that,” Tritt said. The exhibit opens May 29 and runs through the end of the year. Learn more about the exhibit or purchase tickets on Union Station’s website here.
