Croatia has launched a new €9.9 million project aimed at strengthening migration management and border procedures on the European Union’s external border, the Ministry of Interior said today.
The project, titled “Establishment of Accommodation Capacities for Third-Country Nationals and Security Infrastructure for the Implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum”, was approved following a proposal by the Border Administration of the Police Directorate.
The Directorate for European Affairs, International Relations and European Union Funds adopted a decision late last month on the direct allocation of financial support for the project. A formal agreement on the allocation of funds was signed on 7 May 2026.
The initiative will focus on establishing accommodation facilities for carrying out detailed screening and border procedure processes involving third-country nationals.
The project is intended to support more efficient migration management at Croatia’s external border.
According to the agreement, the project is valued at €9.9 million. Funding will be provided largely through the European Union’s Integrated Border Management Fund, under the Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI), which will cover 90 percent of the costs.
The remaining 10 percent will be financed through Croatia’s state budget.
Authorities say the project will create the necessary conditions for Croatia to meet its obligations under the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum.
The measures are part of wider efforts across the European Union to strengthen border management systems and improve migration procedures at the bloc’s external frontiers.
