Hi everyone,
almost a month ago, I asked which bike you recommend I should get as an obese person and I got a lot of kind and informative responses (thanks!). So I was hoping you could once again help me 🙂 I think you can see my post if you go to my profile, if not: I am 145 kg, 160 cm, F, international student who moved here recently, looking for a bike 🙂
There are 2 bikes for around the same price (second hand): Which one should I get?
Bike 1:

https://www.amazon.nl/Prophete-Geniesser-City-stadsfiets-grijs/dp/B07NQBRRBW
It is the prophete geniesser 9.6. It says that it can hold up to 170 kg. However the frame size is 52 and I am 160 cm. Imo it should be fine because I can adjust the seat (I cannot test this, so what do you think? Is it too big?)
Bike 2:

It is a kalkhoff, which was recommended by a few people in my last post. It also says that it carries up to 170 kg. The frame size of this is 45. Is this too small?
(A friend who is also 160 cm will go to a store for me soon to check out the frame sizes because I cannot check them out myself.)
What do you think I should get?
Thank you in advance and for the help!

Make sure the friend isn’t just the same height, but also has the same leg and arm lengths. Those tend to vary between people of the same size.
Don’t forget that this friend with the same height, might have the height divided differently: longer or shorter legs.
Is there a reason you cannot test them yourself? Because I would absolutely recommend that.
Looks like the second bike is also available in frame size 50, that might be worth checking out.
I have the agattu from kalkhoff and I am nearly 180 kg. Its a great and sturdy bike and never had any doubt it will break. Only advice, try to get the one with more gears, a few more gears help when taking it out for a fun spin when it is a bit more windy.
I personally would make sure I can atually try it out a bit before buying. There are dealers of this brand in the country maybe there is one closer to you that has it?

I took a quick look and the bikes don’t look to different. The second bike has a nexus 8 speed gear. Is has one more gear, is more efficient and better quality. It’s considered a way better hub gear. In the fifth gear it has a 1:1 transmission too. This one won’t be with any loses inside the hub. I’d also recommend to put a chain guard on that protects the whole chain. It protects the chain against dust, mud and rain. Which in turn prolongs the life of your drivetrain. 45 cm could be too small, but it really depends on your body and posture so it’s hard to say anything about that.
Don’t forget to buy an extra chain lock, as new bikes can get stolen very quickly!
Update: I am even more confused now.
I went to the bike store and the person said that none of the second hand bikes I showed him are good. What?? I told him the bikes say that they can carry up to 170 kg but he was acting like that is suspicious or not true. Then after talking to him for a while he showed me a second hand bike from his store that is a bit out of budget. I think the brand of the bike was Pepper. And he told me that it is sturdy and its tires are wide enough to carry me. But he said it is the only bike in my budget range (it was even more, the bike costs 470€..) and weight class. And dont get me wrong, he was kind and helpful and seemed very professional.
He said it is better to get this bike then the other bikes because his bike is already repaired etc. However he wont reserve it for me and said that the bike will be sold in a few days because many people buy his second hand bikes, so now I dont know what to do.
My family says to get the kalkhoff bike because it says that it can carry up to 170 kg and that the bike from the store is just a regular bike with better tires, so that it is not made for people like me and therefore it will break faster and I lost all the money..
Thoughts?
I’m 163cm. I’ve had bikes with frame size 57 and 45 and everything inbetween. 57 was doable but felt like the max I should have. As long as you can adjust the seat you’ll be fine, it cycles a bit differently but you get used to it soon enough.
As you are female I’d make sure you get a wide ladies’ seat, that will make for much more comfortable cycling (most city bikes already have a ladies’ seat but you can easily have it replaced if not).
