Derailed — The desolate state of European railway

  1. >Instead of using the funds for projects that bring quick and major improvements, EU states are investing billions in inefficient large-scale projects, which the European Court of Auditors has harshly criticised. At the same time, citizens’ initiatives are mobilising against new railway lines.

    Meaning what

Also this article swems vague because different states have different approaches

  2. to be fair I struggle to see myself taking a train rather than a plane unless at the very least one of the two issues below is solved.

    1. It would cost me 35 euros to fly to Croatia and several hundred to train there. it’s just not cost effective for me to do so.
    2. Unless I’m getting two extra days of leave per holiday it’s just not time efficient to do so

  3. We need a TGV from Portugal to Poland.

I like trains because they generally don’t fly and are mostly very environmental friendly/ kilometer / passagers / operations
