  1. Scotland’s budget is set my Westminster and it’s going down. So they need to cut, yet when they do they are blamed? The author even points this out:

    >In addition to Forbes’ homilies to market virtues, SNP leaders made much of the fact that the Scottish budget has been cut at Westminster. This is true. However, the SNP and Scottish Green response to this—that cuts to the budget, and the lack of borrowing powers, shows the need for Scottish independence—rings hollow for two reasons.

With his reasons an attack on independence/referendum and little to do with the actual situation today around how to mitigate the budget cut’s without staff cuts.

  2. Man the media Is fucking awful

    “SNP spending out of control”

    two seconds later

“SNP budget cuts are awful they need to spend more”

Like fucking have some nuance, I’m an SNP/Green/Lib Dem/Small Left wing party swing voter in the Highlands and Jesus christ do the media do their worst work trying to report anything about Scotland. Sure the SNP aren’t perfect and they deserve criticism but fucking hell do they contradict themselves constantly just to make a headline.

Another example was the “Scotland doesn’t have any oil left to support their economy”

Then they came out with the headlines against the new oil findings which both uber leftists and the right wing misunderstand drastically which is ironic during an oil crisis, we could tax it heavily, .make a profit, stop Europe from relying so heavily on Russian oil (or at least the UK) and do it in a more Green way than exported oil producers do. Or if you work in the media no matter what it’s “oil bad” even though we as a society will never remove all uses of oil and its instead better to cut down our reliance on it but not halt extraction of it.

Anyway rant over, just pisses me off seeing the media and by extention dumb voters on social media get mad when the government does exactly what people asked them to do in the past.

  3. This is the press we live with now in the whole of the UK, sensationalized attacks on the Parties in power, often with misleading headlines. To be honest I’m getting to the stage that I do not think it is going to matter one bit who is in power. The world in on a downward spiral due to climate change caused by over-population, and even Covid could do nothing to reduce that. So far this year the world population has increased by over 34 million. We are breeding ourselves into destruction.

  4. Living within your means is the first rule of actually being free of markets and financial organisations and the rest of the “neo liberal orthodoxy”.

The fact this isn’t widely accepted truth is one of the reasons we have neoliberalism.

(And for the record, I’m no fan of the SNP).
