Oliver Cromwell was a Puritan, I am pretty sure he didn’t approve of Gambling & Drinking. He even banned Christmas celebrations as they were thought to be too decadent.

I won’t be surprised if once the current monarch kicks the bucket they’re won’t be a rise in English republic themes like Cromwell and commonwealth.
