Austrian to restart Israel service from June, followed by Lufthansa, Swiss and Eurowings.
Lufthansa Group carriers are to gradually restore services to Tel Aviv, flights which have been cancelled since the outbreak of the Iran conflict at the end of February.
Austrian Airlines will resume Tel Aviv services from the start of June, while German carrier Lufthansa Airlines and Swiss International Air Lines aim to begin flights to the Israeli city at the start of July. Leisure unit Eurowings will follow suit by the middle of July.
Brussels Airlines’ flights to Tel Aviv remain suspended until 24 October.
Lufthansa says the decision to gradually resume the routes follows a comprehensive safety and security assessment.
European aviation regulator EASA yesterday issued an updated advisory for airspace in the Middle East and Persian Gulf through until 27 May. While that continues to recommend carriers do not operate within the affected airspace of Iran, Iraq and Lebanon, it recommends operators exercise caution and take potential risks into account when operating within the airspace of Bahrain, Kuwait, Israel, Jordan, Qatar, Oman, UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Carriers based in the Middle East are also moving to restore some flights.
After withdrawing from several markets early during the war in Iran, Qatar Airways continues working to restore service to key cities throughout the region. On 13 May, the carrier resumed twice-daily flights to Abu Dhabi, its third destination in the UAE behind Dubai and Sharjah.
