To be fair, and i know this is unreasonable, but a proffesional-contract military seems more worth it than dragging in young folk not even interested in being there.
It would create space for people to have better morale, but numbers would probably plummet.

I support universal conscription, but big problem is infrastructure, we are not ready yet.
I think resistance is due to a lot of people thinking serving military means shooting guns and thats it. Not all people that go to military will be asked to go to the frontline. A lot of jobs in a military has support role like logistics, reconnaissance or driving shit around. These jobs can be filled by women.
Personally I think it depends what our national defence strategy demands. Universal conscription for women would probably mean we would have to spend additional $300M a year. So is having bigger pool of reserves is better than investing lets say to military hardware? I dunno
if It’s only men, it’s not universal.
Basically, here’s how it boils down IMO:
You either have equality of the sexes or you don’t.
So, if only men are conscripted – you don’t have equality. Though it’s obvious that most people couldn’t give two shits about men when talking about equality. It’s always in the lieu of feminism that this appears everywhere.
So, what I’m saying is that we can’t just go around ensuring equality for women and then turn our back on men by only conscripting men.
It must be universal. Otherwise there’s little point in pretending we care about equality if it doesn’t cover all the bases.
Universal conscription sounds good. Just give us some options: military or general aid/social services training. Also only drafting kids straight after school would make more sense than taking people who already started their careers.

Probably should be good for morale if women also participated. Feels a bit unjust, and there are lots of women joining army anyway.
