Did Katie Gearlds find a point guard?
It appears.
Slovenia’s Zoja Stirn is the latest commitment to join the Boilermakers, announcing her pledge on social media Wednesday. The 21-year-old is listed as a point guard and shooting guard in several bios, and has experience as a primary ballhandler.
Versatility certainly helps, especially after Purdue played most of the season without a true point guard. The 5-foot-10 Stirn most recently played for Cinkarna Celje, a Slovenian club team. Stirn was a member of the Slovenian National Team in 2025-26.
Stirn brings the roster to 14 players, 11 who didn’t play last season for the Boilermakers, including Taylor Henderson. Henderson was with the program but redshirted due to an injury. The roster now features seven international players.
Stirn will likely be listed as a first-year player, joining three other international prospects who have already signed their paperwork as part of the 2026 recruiting class.
Gearlds can fill one more spot since rosters are capped at 15.
The additions through the portal and from overseas during the offseason haven’t clearly defined whether a true point guard was set to join the program. If Stirn can fill the role, that’s one less concern facing the Boilermakers.
Stirn has played in numerous FIBA events, including the 2023 U18 European Championships, where she averaged 12.4 points and 5.0 rebounds. She averaged 8.1 points and shot 50% (8 of 16) from 3-point range in seven games during the 2025 U20 Eurobasket Championships. She averaged 15.6 points and shot 44.8% from beyond the arc in the 2021 U16 European Championships.
Stirn averaged 10.6 points during the 23-game season for Cinkarna Celje, where she was listed as the team’s point guard.
