The
Non-Food Traders Association has voiced a position against the
proposed amendments to the Consumer Protection Act and the Protection
of Competition Act. The bills, submitted by Progressive Bulgaria and
adopted at first reading by the temporary committee on budget and
finance, introduce a ban on unjustified price increases until August
2027, as fines are doubled.
According to the retailers, these changes
are being adopted hastily and without public debate. Representatives
of the association are of the opinion that replacing regulatory
powerlessness with more regulations is a manifestation of weakness
and the changes affect the entire economy and should not be adopted
without debate, impact assessment and business participation.
In
the position of the Non-Food Traders Association, the traders warn
that laws that reverse the logic of the market should not be adopted
in a matter of days.
