Groups from across the political spectrum clashed in Jerusalem’s Old City ahead of the Jerusalem Day flag march.

Amid the rising tensions, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir ascended the Temple Mount, bearing the Israeli flag.

“We restored sovereignty on the Temple Mount thanks to determination and deterrence,” Ben-Gvir announced. “This year, Ramadan was the quietest, thanks to deterrence. The Temple Mount is in our hands!”

In one outburst of violence, a group of youths got into an altercation with Old City residents and left-wing activists, including throwing chairs at them.

In another case, activists from the Standing Together movement were escorted out of the Old City by the Israel Police, as settlers cheered.

The activists, Standing Together announced, were there to prevent “extremist settlers” from harming Palestinian residents of the old city during the march.

This is a developing story.
