  3. Objectively speaking, I guarantee a large portion of the population is not familiar with imperial measurements. I know European immigrants over 10 years in the country who have no clue what a fluid ounce is, for example

  4. Why do they keep announcing things before doing the consultation? The consultation is to help you decide, not just a stupid formality you do after announcing something.

Whenever Boris &Co come up with an idea, there’s a scam waiting to happen, if the people that voted for him can’t see this by now, then there’s got to be something wrong with there intelligence. There’s probably at least half the population of this country that haven’t been educated with imperial measurements, so that would make it easier to start ripping people off. Surely you would start educating the kids of this country with imperial measurements, before you change to them, which is why I can see a scam waiting to happen. Why would you fix something that doesn’t need fixing, unless you are trying to trick people. There’s definitely a Scam going on, because there’s no real reason to change something that Don’t need Fixing.

  20. Yep total rubbish and a ludicrous cost to funnel more taxes into the hands of scams, called policy. Metric set the engineering standard for industry. Our imperial measurement does not equate to American so no benefits there. Its flag waving idiocracy at best. 2lb of bacon instead of a kilo and lose 20%volume for the same cost, does not benefit us.

  28. With all due respect, does it really matter? Most people I know use an ungodly mishmash of metric and imperial. People will just continue to use the system they want anyway.

  31. TBH it’s probably not the best time for it, but I think we need to sort it out once and for all.

    When I was at school they tried to teach us both imperial and metric and to be honest I understand more metric, but there a lot of things in the uk 🇬🇧 which are still imperial, and really.. it means nothing to me.
    I’m sure others are the same as there is little to no logic to how it’s applied.

    **On the roads**,

    300 yards til the exit, no idea how big a yard is.

    Doing 70mph, dunno how long a mile is.

    **Construction materials.**

    2×4 inch plank. Length is 2.40 in meters?

    Why metric and imperial on the same material?

    8x4ft plywood 6mm thick?

    They’re a few things that I deal with and while yes I convert it, why is it sold like this?

    I mean paint is sold in litres not gallons

    I think we should embrace metric it makes more sense and more young people understand it, we don’t have to drive on the other side of the road, but distances would be great.

    Been looking at doing my motorcycle test and all the questions about stopping distances are in meters, so we measure stopping distances in metric but speed of travel in imperial, talk about confusing.
