PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (7News) — An investigation is underway after a shooting at multiple locations in northern Prince George’s County, Maryland, on Friday afternoon sent two people to the hospital, one in critical condition.

Around 2:30 p.m., Prince George’s County Police Department received a call for a man with a gun in the 5100 block of Pierce Avenue.

According to police, around 2:51 p.m. a 64-year-old man was shot at, but was not hit. However, a bullet hit a glass window and the glass cut the man’s head.

Officers were again called around 2:58 p.m. to the area of 67th Avenue and Patterson Street for a car accident where the person in the vehicle got out and began shooting randomly at people in the area. A man was hit in this shooting and four other people were shot at but not hit, according to investigators.

Shortly after that shooting, a woman was shot at and carjacked in the area of Kenilworth Avenue and Good Luck Road. Investigators said an off-duty Prince George’s County police officer witnessed the carjacking and began following the stolen vehicle.

The off-duty officer managed to relay the location of the shooter, according to police. U.S. Park Police were monitoring the shooting spree and caught up with the shooter in the 900 block of Edmonston Road, according to investigators.

The shooter then got out of the stolen vehicle and opened fire on the off-duty officer, investigators said. The U.S. Park police then confronted the gunman, who had run out of bullets. Police said the man then dropped his weapon and was arrested.

Sources told 7News the incident began in the Riverdale area, where 911 callers reported someone driving around and firing a gun into the air.

There are no outstanding suspects at this time, according to police.

The Greenbelt Police Department said it was helping Prince George’s County police with an investigation into a suspected armed carjacking that occurred outside Greenbelt’s jurisdiction.

Greenbelt Police said the incident ended near Edmonston Road and Greenbelt Road.

As a precaution, Greenbelt Middle School and Dora Kennedy French Immersion School had delayed dismissals. Officers were stationed at each school to ensure the safety of students and staff.

There was no current belief that the public was at risk, according to GPD.

Residents in the area should follow police instructions and avoid the scene while officers continue their response.
