Universiteit Antwerpen roept onderwijsbegeleider op matje nadat studenten video verspreiden met denigrerende uitspraken: “Van de orthodoxe joden heb je minder last”

    A classic colonialist/fascist/”white man’s burden” attitude.

    To some it might sound like she’s complementing the orthodox jewish community, but think for a minute what she’s actually saying. She’s still focusing on the “not like us” aspect and because she’s not annoyed by them, he thinks it’s ok. As long as those different people don’t bother him, she’s fine with them. But if that wasn’t the case…

    She’s a hair’s breath removed from claiming people who aren’t white are genetically inclined to violence.

  5. Im actually a student of hers and I’m completely fucking dumbfounded. Everyone in biology always saw her as this very nice and warm person and shes always been there for us is we needed her.

    To hear her say these words is just insane

  9. Ik herinner me vroeger dat mijn mama zei wij daar later ons minder zorgen om moesten maken omdat zij ervan uit ging dat wij iets gingen maken van onszelf en dus zo in een omgeving gingen komen van intelligente en intellectuele mensen.. die mens is basically een prof. So, guess she was wrong..

Not to take away from the exact statements by those faculty members, but it’s also rather problematic that these images can be shared with the largest media outlets in Belgium, without anyone raising a doubt as to whether or not that’s at least very unethical. If this would have been handled internally, that would’ve been a different case. If the media were to be informed *without* the actual sharing of the images, but just a short summary of what was said by those faculty members, that would have been a totally different story.

    No matter what it actually is right now, it *looks* like a society where there’s censoring of opinions. Sure, it’s a terrible idea to have that conversation in a classroom where you know there’s camera’s and audio recording equipment, and the ideas themselves are pretty awful, too. But it’s *also* awful that as a society we seem to accept this Big Brother-like system where suddenly, 2 people with most likely a spotless career in academics get cancelled over the course of less than *2 hours*, their employer distances themselves from the stuff being said, immediately promises the media that there will be consequences, politicians make big statements and feed off the happening, and every single media outlet in Belgium shares the images. And that’s for, what in the end is essentially bar talk. Really shitty bar talk, at a really shitty place and time, don’t get me wrong. But it’s a private conversation in the end.

    I honestly am worried about anyone who has an opinion that is *ever so slightly* different from the politically correct narrative. Apparently you can just be recorded, some random person you don’t know can tell on you and suddenly you’re new meat for the public tribunal. What kind of society is that supposed to be?

    Kind of worrying.

    (And no, I don’t condone those opinions)

    Edit: for those who say there was no violation of those people’s privacy: it seems that a lot of lawyers think differently, and see a direct violation of art. 314bis Penal Code. Just for the record (no pun intended)
