A new generation of young performers has recorded a remake of Croatia’s iconic patriotic song “Moja domovina” to mark the 100th anniversary of Hrvatska radiotelevizija (HRT).

The new version features nearly 300 children, including contestants from “The Voice Kids”, the HRT Children’s Choir and choirs from music schools across Croatia.

Originally released in 1991 during the Homeland War, “Moja domovina” quickly became one of Croatia’s most recognised patriotic songs. Music producer Nikša Bratoš said the song reflected the sense of unity felt during difficult times.

The song was officially recognised also this year as the most significant Croatian song of the past 80 years by the Croatian Composers’ Society (HDS).

The remake aims to preserve the strength of the original while offering a softer interpretation through children’s voices, project editor Gordana Škaljac Narančić told HRT.

Many of the young performers heard the song for the first time during recording, but said its message of unity and peace resonated strongly with them. Several described the experience as emotional and meaningful.

Recording took place over two days, with producers Nikša Bratoš and Hrvoje Hegedušić praising the children’s enthusiasm and energy throughout the sessions.

The accompanying music video, directed by Ivan Miladinov, features young performers representing singers from the original 1991 version. Emily Maras appears in the role inspired by Dino Dvornik, while Marino Vrgoč represents Oliver Dragojević.

Project organisers said the remake is intended not only as a tribute to the past, but also as a message of togetherness for future generations.
