Hello,

I just got an email from Brussels Airlines saying there is a national demonstration the 20th of june. Unfortunately I have a flight that day, and I am really worried that I will not be able to go Brussels airport and reach my flight since I am traveling to the airport from Rotterdam.

Does anyone here have any advice on what I should do? Reading news articles about it online, the strikes and demonstrations seems pretty extensive, are they usually a big problem, and do they usually affect public transport that much? I am contemplating just buying a new return ticket from Amsterdam instead.

VRT is warning against flying that day: [https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/en/2022/06/15/\_don\_t-fly-from-brussels-on-20-june/](https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/en/2022/06/15/_don_t-fly-from-brussels-on-20-june/)

>the Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company (STIB-MIVB) have confirmed they anticipate significant disruption to public transport services in Brussels as a result of the strike. TEC, the public transport operator in the Wallonia region of Belgium, states disruptions are possible on the network as a result of the strike. Disruptions are also likely on national rail services operated by SNCB-NMBS and public transport services in the Flanders Region operated by De Lijn.

  1. If the flight is really important then go to the airport on the 19th and sleep there.
If you have money to “spare” buy a lounge access and when it opens next day (hoping it’s not affected by the strike) you take a shower there, and eat what you want/need!

You’ll have passed the security control on the 19th 😅
Not the perfect solution but I’ve seen people sleeping there overnight

  2. I would personally not risk it. It’s going to be chaos because of all the strikes, so expect delays, possible cancellations and tons of stranded people.

If you have a connecting flight out of Rotterdam, I’d look into booking a Thalys to get there: http://www.thalys.be

  3. Just take the Thalys instead, it’s a hell of a lot faster as well…. Unless I understood you wrong (as in flying from Brussel to Rotterdam).

  4. Cancel it, you’re entitled to a full refund (no damages though) and rebook via another airport if it’s important.
