Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted the urgent need for science-driven agricultural practices amidst the evident effects of climate change worldwide, particularly on Indian farming. During a crucial meeting, he reviewed proposals from the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) on the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
Chouhan urged the preparation of state-specific agricultural roadmaps considering local agro-climatic conditions in collaboration with state governments. Reports indicate that efforts are underway in states like Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Rajasthan to formalize these roadmaps soon.
The Minister, accompanied by ICAR’s Director General, Dr. M. L. Jat, reiterated agriculture’s pivotal role in the economy. He stressed making farming more productive and financially rewarding, advocating integrated farming approaches to increase farmer incomes effectively and sustainably.
