(Gray News) – The latest season of “Survivor Greece” has been suspended after a contestant lost a part of his leg while spearfishing “outside the competitive process” of the show.
Starvos Floros, a 21-year-old beekeeper, was spearfishing in the Dominican Republic on May 10 during a break from filming when he was struck by a tourist boat, the production company AcunMedya said in a statement to the Toronto Sun.
According to the Toronto Sun, one of the boat’s engine propellers struck Floros, partially amputating his left leg below the knee and causing severe damage to his right ankle.
AcunMedya said Floros remains hospitalized and is in a “serious but stable condition.”
The production company said local authorities are investigating the incident.
Entertainment Weekly reported that the television network SkaiTV announced that “Survivor Greece” has been suspended while the investigation is underway. The show’s 13th season premiered on Jan. 11.
SkaiTV also said it will help with Floros’s medical treatment and rehabilitation.
