I also remember the US’ reaction, it was not not penitence, but rather fury at having been exposed. He did them a great deal of harm PR-wise and i understand why they want revenge, but it continues to prove that with the US it’s always a case of ‘do as i say, not as i do’. Great faux-concern for Russia’s enemies like Navalny, but merciless punishment for their own dissidents like Assange, Snowden etc.
The gradual loss of authenticity and constant hypocrisy is why they’ve found it so difficult to gather support outside of western nations during this current conflict, having had to resort to threats far more often, as their promises and bribes have lost much of their allure.
I’d like to add that as a British citizen, i’m struggling to think of anything, other than the quick vaccine rollout that the Conservatives have done well, or correctly, in their many years of power. I voted Brexit and i still think separation from the EU was the right choice in the long run, but even from my political standpoint, i can say nothing good about the tories. Grenfell (i and many others haven’t forgotten, it still hurts very much), is yet another disgraceful event in their long list of failures and corruption, whilst this Rwanda debacle is an embarrassing and mean attempt at misdirection. It doesn’t work anymore.
I don’t like Starmer but i’ll be voting Labour next time around if i’m still alive, though when it comes to Assange they’d have probably done the same, as the UK establishment is the US’ most faithful lapdog.
