North Korea’s women’s soccer team will begin to quench the tension for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Champions League (AWCL) Finals.

My hometown stepped on Korean soil through Incheon International Airport on the afternoon of the 17th. According to the Ministry of Unification, a total of 35 people, including 23 athletes and 12 staff, entered my hometown. Initially, 39 people were scheduled to enter the country, but four preliminary players were reportedly excluded.

It is the first time in eight years that the North Korean team has visited South Korea. It is the first time since the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Tour Grand Final held in Incheon in December 2018. It has been 12 years since the 2014 Incheon Asian Games as a women’s soccer team.

My hometown left Pyongyang on the 12th and arrived in Beijing, China, before arriving in South Korea on a Chinese international flight on the same day. My hometown is staying at a hotel in Suwon to prepare for the competition schedule.

AWCL is a club competition involving the top teams in the women’s league in each AFC member country. The four teams that reach the semifinals will play the semifinals and finals in a single round at a single venue under the name AWCL Finals.

The Final will be confirmed to host Suwon as Suwon FC Women succeeded in advancing to the semifinals. A total of three games, two semi-finals and one final, will be held at Suwon Stadium.

My hometown will have an inter-Korean match against Suwon FC Women to advance to the final on the 20th.

This tournament is drawing a lot of attention due to the North Korean team’s visit to Korea. All 7,000 seats were sold out within 12 hours of the ticket reservation. Considering that it contributes to promoting mutual understanding between the two Koreas, the Ministry of Unification plans to provide 300 million won to civil society organizations such as the Inter-Korean Cooperation Civil Association and the National Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation.
