Heimir Hallgrímsson has made one Ireland supporter’s day – by signing a flag that bears his image.
The Boys in Green boss spotted the flag during Ireland’s 5-0 friendly win against Grenada on Saturday.
And after the match, he made his way over to the far side of the pitch, where the 800-odd travelling fans had gathered to watch the friendly in Murcia.
Hallgrímsson grabbed a marker from one of the supporters and signed the flag, which had a picture of the Ireland boss at his dental practice along with the words – ‘Hallgrímsson’s Horny Army – Our Super Dentist’.
Hallgrímsson still practices dentistry in his native Iceland.
He then posed for photographs with the owner of the flag and supporters, while he greeted others that had stayed behind after the final whistle.
Two Tom Cannon goals and a debut Jack Moylan hat-trick – all scored in the second-half – eased Hallgrímsson’s much-changed side to victory.
Moylan also posed for photos afterwards with four of his friends that travelled to Real Murcia’s impressive Estadio Enrique Roca for the game.
The Lincoln City ace, whose mum, dad and partner were also in attendance, revealed how his pals burst out laughing when he sealed his hat-trick.
“My four best mates were sitting right there in front of me,” he said.
“They’ve done a lot for me over the last few years when you are down and out in the League of Ireland. They were at every game. Now they are over in Alicante. They flew in last night and they have gone straight to the airport to fly back.
“They were all just laughing at me! I don’t even think they were celebrating. They were in a state of shock as well.
“When I go back on Monday I’ll celebrate with them. They are the best group of lads you could ask for.”
