FC Bayern celebrated its 35th German championship together with thousands of fans on Munich’s Marienplatz on Sunday, but the traditional celebration on the town hall balcony was overshadowed by an unpleasant incident
As every year, Vincent Kompany’s team presented the championship trophy to the fans on the balcony of Munich City Hall
The players had previously signed the city’s Golden Book before captain Manuel Neuer held the trophy aloft to loud cheers at 1.49 pm
The crowd was so large that Marienplatz even had to be completely closed off for a while
Insulting banner causes a stir

Shortly before the team’s performance, however, there was a provocation directly below the Rathausbalkon
A banner in the shape of the Bayern crest was unfurled there, but instead of the club’s name, it bore an insulting slur against FC Bayern
The action caused great irritation among the fans present
Trail apparently leads to 1860 Ultras
According to initial assessments, the action is said to have originated from fans of TSV 1860 Munich. There has been an intense rivalry between the supporters of the two Munich clubs for years, which has recently intensified once again
The two fan camps have repeatedly provoked each other and exchanged jibes – both in the stadium and on social networks
Despite the incident, the team did not let the atmosphere dampen their spirits. Harry Kane and co. were celebrated loudly by the fans. Coach Vincent Kompany also visibly enjoyed his first championship celebration with FC Bayern
The Munich side now want to crown their successful season by winning the DFB Cup against VfB Stuttgart.
